EP.39 Celia Judgment (2)

“It’s truly an adorable gift.”

The shadows moved according to Celia’s gesture. It was due to the charm of the succubus species.

They followed her as if they were her pets from the very beginning, astonishing Gurlon.

Simultaneously, he felt relieved.

‘Was charm always this powerful?’

Succubus commonly drained the vitality of humans through dreams. And when more skilled, they could allure others not just in dreams but also by using their charm. That was the essence of their charm.

However, their power was exceptional mainly in dreams and rarely potent in reality. At least, it required high-ranking Succubus or a succubus queen who had long been draining human vitality to achieve such feats, not an ordinary succubus like the one present here.

‘Is she really a succubus queen?’

Yet, Gurlon shook his head.

‘No, she seems even higher than a queen.’

He was astonished that the succubus before him had such a level of power, and felt fortunate that he hadn’t confronted her directly and instead had come to surrender.

‘I nearly met my end with a single misstep.’

Had he turned against her, he too would have been captivated by her charm just like a shadow, unable to resist.

A shiver ran through him, sensing a sudden chill.

‘Look at her now.’

She wasn’t just any succubus but Celia, positioned higher than the 5-star vampire, Baalzerith, that the Demon Merchant wary about.

In other words, from Gurlon’s waning position in the Demon Merchant, he had to grasp this opportunity presented by Celia, and not just any chance but a golden opportunity.

There was no need to confirm it.

“Th-then, would you accept my offer? Please, spare my life.”

Even as a manager within the Demon Merchant’s Audit Team, Gurlon emphasized this point, highlighting his usefulness.

In doing so, he divulged everything to Celia.

He spoke of the discomfort of the Demon Merchant as her dungeon’s influence grew and their current intention to intervene to resolve the situation.

However, even after hearing Gurlon’s words, Celia didn’t react. She merely stared at the shadows.

Gurlon grew increasingly anxious at her lack of response.

‘For the love of—say something!’

Although she might not know it, he was pressed for time. Moreover, as he had bet his life here, the crumbling feeling was akin to a sandcastle.

At least, if she could offer a definitive answer, accepting him, he’d feel some relief, but she remained silent.

“……”

How much time had passed?

Finally, Celia spoke.

“Well, alright. Since you’ve brought such a gift, I’ll grant mercy just this once. However…”

Celia raised her hand and plucked a strand of her own hair.

“Feed this to that Chief.”

“Pardon?”

Suddenly, what was this bizarre request?

‘Feed the Chief my hair?’

Even if she asked, how could one forcibly feed hair?

From the start, it was an wrong assumption.

Gurlon looked at Celia with a bewildered expression.

“Oh, don’t worry, Mr. Gurlon. I’ve asked the shadows to do it.”

Celia smiled slyly as she handed her hair to the shadows.

The shadows delicately received the hair as if handling something crucial.

“The shadows will take care of it, so Mr. Gurlon, you just need to wait.”

Celia gestured toward the shadows.

And in an instant, their presence vanished.

As if dispersing smoke.

“Kwaaa!”

Maltis, a Chief in the Audit Team of the Infernal Demon Merchant, screamed.

He, who resembled an owl, had been in his office working just a while ago.

But suddenly, shadows appeared from somewhere.

Strange.

Certainly, the shadows were supposed to attach themselves to Manager Gurlon… or were they not attempting to overpower him?

Then, strangely, he was forcing something into his own mouth.

Thankfully, Maltis had an owl-like head, so his mouth also resembled a bird’s beak. Due to this, he could resist slightly, but it was fleeting.

Soon, he succumbed to the power of the shadows and found himself unable to close his mouth.

He didn’t understand why the shadows attached to Gurlon were restraining him. What was certain was that both his hands were already grasped by the shadows, and another shadow was prying his mouth open.

“Kuhh….”

Maltis’s mouth was forcibly opened. The shadows shoved the strand of hair received from Celia deep into his opened mouth.

“Gulp.”

As the substance entered his mouth, Maltis began to cough involuntarily.

After several attempts at resistance, he eventually swallowed what had entered his mouth.

“…….?”

‘Huh?’

‘What just happened? ‘

‘Who am I? ‘

‘What was I doing?’

‘Ah, yes, it came back to me. I am Maltis, a Chief working at the Infernal Demon Merchant.’

‘But why are the shadows here?’

“…..”

‘Oh, right.’

‘Sometimes I tend to forget.’

‘I must carry out Lady Celia’s orders.’

“…”

Maltis smoothly returned to his place. It was because he had to work for Lady Celia, the presence he always felt within himself, despite never having met her in person. This was clear loyalty.

“Oh, dear. I acted in such a way.”

If she knew, she’d surely be disappointed.

Maltis checked the documents on his desk and discarded them all. Afterward, he began drafting new documents.

Sharing the investigation results regarding the recent merging of 26 dungeons.

It appears there’s no disadvantage to our Demon Merchant, and the dungeon’s master seems to comply well with our directives…

Maltis was diligently carrying out his duties.

“Oh, I almost forgot again. The only one aware of this task is my superior, chief Kaisen. He’s been worrying lately about the hostility towards him within the Demon Merchant.”

Maltis started adding unnecessary comments, smoothly spilling out the information he knew.

“I hope my words can be of help to her.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the shadows disappeared.

The next day, chaos erupted within the Infernal Demon Merchant. The news arrived that Kaisen, one of the Chiefs, had committed suicide.

As he wasn’t a high-ranking official, the news soon faded into the background.

“Such a shame about the Chief.”

Maltis mumbled as he sipped his coffee.

“That’s why you shouldn’t mess with her.”

Gurlon smoothly returned to the Audit Team of the Demon Merchant and continued his work. But the atmosphere was peculiar, all due to Chief Maltis.

‘What did she do to the Chief?’

The Chief’s demeanour had changed.

He didn’t mention anything about the task the Chief had assigned him, not even once. It felt as if he didn’t care at all.

‘Is it fortunate in a way?’

Ultimately, it was a situation where Gurlon could brush it off. Regardless, he could return to the Demon Merchant without any issues and didn’t have to beg for his life from the succubus.

“Anyway…”

One thing bothered him, why were I released? It was puzzling why they had let him go without a hitch.

“Exactly how is this situation unfolding now? Or… was all of this just a dream?”

It felt as if he had dreamed for a moment.

Eventually, Gurlon decided to shut down his thoughts.

It was good, just good.

There was no need to overthink and strain his head. He decided to focus on his work faithfully.

Stepping outside for a brief breath of fresh air, he found some of his subordinates already there.

“Hmm…”

Seeing his subordinates, Gurlon felt an itch in his throat. He couldn’t resist the urge to share the experiences he had been through, especially encountering that succubus. She was undoubtedly a being of tremendous stature.

Reporting to the Demon Merchant was natural, but he feared any potential retaliation from her. So, he opted for spreading rumors as a solution.

Gurlon subtly approached the gathering of subordinates.

“Ah, hello, Manager!” Sᴇaʀᴄh thᴇ N0vᴇlFire(.)nᴇt website on Gøøglᴇ to access chapters of nøvels early and in the highest quality.

“Uh… yeah. Good morning.”

He couldn’t recall the name of the employee. Probably someone he hadn’t deemed important, or rather, someone whose face seemed unfamiliar.

Ah, perhaps a new recruit. But hadn’t he heard about new recruits joining?

Come to think of it, all the faces present there seemed unfamiliar. He felt a bit uneasy.

“Maybe they are from different departments.”

Just as Gurlon was attempting to slip away from the group, someone called out to him.

“Manager Gurlon, do you have something to say?”

“Hmm?”

Gurlon turned back.

“Did you experience something unusual?”

That was precisely the trigger he needed to start talking.

“Did it seem so?”

He cleared his throat and began narrating the stories of his experiences.

“Ah, that’s unbelievable. conquering 26 dungeons, and in such a short time.”

“Really? I got scolded by chief because of that.”

“And the master of the dungeon is a succubus queen-level being? Yet, they let you go as is? Quite a boastful story, Manager.”

The employees laughed and chattered.

“Wait, seriously?”

Gurlon felt annoyed seeing his employees who seemed hesitant to believe him. So, he started explaining in more detail. He explained everything from beginning to end.

While Gurlon was explaining, he suddenly felt a sense of unease.

‘Huh?’

Suddenly, everything around him became quiet. No, not suddenly. Somehow, he found himself talking alone.

Gurlon glanced around. All the employees stood silently with expressionless faces, rolling their eyes.

“Gasp!”

Soon, all their eyeballs were directed towards Gurlon himself. Their mouths opened. Everyone’s mouths opened simultaneously, but there was only one voice.

“Oh, Gurlon, I did say I’d grant mercy only once.”

Huh? It was a familiar voice. It was the voice of Succubus Celia.

‘No way…’

As Gurlon regained his composure, the scene of the Demon Merchant where he had been vanished. A familiar landscape appeared.

The dungeon that merged 26 dungeons in a short time. The dungeon managed by the succubus.

“How was your dream? Was it sweet?”

Celia, standing before him, smiled and spoke.

Gurlon, he was in the dungeon now. To be precise, he had never left the dungeon from the start.

“Did I appear amusing to you?”

“No…”

Gurlon felt despair.

“No! That was a mistake!”

But Gurlon had already forfeited the one chance of mercy that Celia had extended.

“Aaahhh!”

Gurlon’s screams echoed through the dungeon.

It was Celia’s judgment for someone who had lost their one chance.
