The vase she had bought still adorned the table. She went to the window and gazed motionless at the rain outside, somewhat lost in thought.

The doorbell rang, jolting Cheng Jinlan from her reverie. Thinking it was him with hands too full to open the door, she hurried over and opened it. Seeing the person outside, she froze for a second.
